Q&A with Megan Tyler

Our star of the month

Meet our star of the month – Megan Tyler

We love our team here at Windsor Telecom, and enjoy recognising people who go above and beyond for our customers and colleagues. This month, we crowned Megan Tyler as our star of the month for her quick learning, and the support she offers our customers and other colleagues through the business.

Meg joined Windsor as a support engineer and has quickly become a vital part of the team.

Meg for wallboard

1. How long have you been at Windsor Telecom?

Just over 6 months, I started on the first day of June after moving back home from living up North. I was fortunate to know one of the Windsor team in Sales, and knowing I was looking for a job in the telecoms industry, he helped me get an interview. I was welcomed into the team and felt accepted from my first day in the office. I have never been in a job with such a warm and caring environment. My manager Andy has always been there to support me, and the operations team are the best bunch of people to work with.

2. Tell us a bit about your day to day responsibilities.

I look after a lot of our customers who may have issues with their telephony and anything in that field, in particular from some of our acquired brands. In my day-to-day tasks, I speak to customers and help them with their tickets. I also work on projects and am currently helping with the provisioning and migration of some of our customers over to our new cloud telephony platform, Xelion.

3. What career wisdom can you share with us?

Never be afraid to ask for help. There is always someone around with the knowledge you need, and no one is ever going to look down on you for going to them for help. I wouldn’t know half of what I know now if I had been worried about asking too many questions.

4. What changes would you like to see in the telecoms industry over the next decade?

My career in telecoms started with installing fibre broadband, what we call FTTP (Fibre to the Premises). I am excited to see this become the nation’s most used type of connection, as I have a vast knowledge on it and can put it to use in my work now. I’m also interested to see how fibre progresses, and what technology will be created next. I can’t even imagine what it could be because fibre is so fast and reliable, but that only makes the future innovation more exciting.

5. What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on at Windsor? Why?

I’ve recently been working on migrating some of our telephony customers onto a new platform and that’s been great. I’ve been able to get more involved in different areas across the company that I had not worked with before, and it has developed my relationships with more colleagues across Windsor.

6. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I am mostly a gamer – I play a lot on my PC in my spare time with my partner and friends. I am also an art lover and have taken up painting again in the last few months. If I’m not painting or gaming you will find me cuddling my cat Moo while watching a movie or new TV series.

7. Any fun facts or hidden talents we don’t know about you?

I used to have pet rats. They get a lot of stick, but they are the sweetest, smartest little creatures and I loved having them as pets.

8. What’s one thing you cant live without?

I couldn’t live without my parents – they are my biggest supporters. I don’t live with them but after being up North for 5 years, it’s so great being near them again. Being an only child, I’m extra close to them. They’re my rock.

9. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

To teleport. I am so disorganised and late to everything, or constantly leaving something behind. If I could teleport that would fix so many of my problems.

10. If you could meet any 3 people, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

In no particular order, mine would probably have to be-

  • Bruce Springsteen- I grew up with his music and he is one of my heroes.
  • Vincent Van Gogh – I love his work and would like to learn more about how his rather fragile mind works.
  • Felix Shellberg .aka Pewdiepie – I spent all my teens watching his video, he had such a big impact on me growing up.

Thanks Megan, great getting to know you and we’re so happy to have you as part of the Windsor team!
