It’s true. The ISDN and PSTN network isn’t being completely retired until 2025, but that doesn’t mean that you should relax until then. In fact, you’ve only got a few more months of using these services as you’re used to until every area of the country enters the next main phase of the ISDN retirement process.

From September 2023, you will no longer be able to add to or change these services, meaning that your phone system will become completely inflexible. If you don’t want that for your business, then stop making excuses.

Here are the six main reasons that businesses tell us why they’re not ready to make the change, and why we tell them they should do it anyway!

I’m still in contract for ISDN –

This can put people in quite a pickle, and if you’ve invested heavily in your system then ending the contract early can be a hard pill to swallow. However, it’s worth checking when your contract ends and what fees you could be liable for as changing to a new cloud-based system now could still work out cheaper, especially if you take into account expensive support contracts and increased productivity from additional functionality. Having an up-to-date modern phone system will immediately improve the way you work, making your business more successful.

It’s going to be a hassle –

There’s no denying it, change often requires extra work – but that isn’t always the case. Both SIP and Cloud Telephony (the two obvious ISDN alternatives), are easy to set up and require little effort for you or your team – that’s for us to worry about. We’ll need input from you of course – we want to tailor your system to you as much as possible – but we’ll do the heavy lifting. We’ve been implementing these systems for years now, and are experts. So, you can leave the migration in our hands, kick back and relax knowing you’ll soon have a futureproof phone system.

It’s not broken –

Bottom line – you’re right. ISDN does work just fine and will do for a couple more months, but after that you’ll no longer be able to add or make any changes to your system, stopping healthy growth and change in your business. To be prepared for the switch, most people are changing now, to give time for setup and implementation of a new service. Having this peace of mind isn’t essential, but it sure makes life a lot less stressful.

I like the solution I have –

We do understand that. I’m sure you loved your very first mobile phone too – remember the Nokia 3310! But loving your first mobile didn’t stop you from upgrading, and I’m sure it’s something you do regularly now, even if it’s a bit of a hassle each time mirroring your phone setup. This switch is exactly like that – yes you might like your current system, but we’re sure you’re going to love your new system even more. You’ll gain so many new features to help your colleagues work more efficiently and deliver an awesome customer experience, plus you’ll make options like hybrid working and switching between devices simple.

I’ve invested heavily in my current solution –

Nobody likes money going to waste and if you’ve invested heavily in an on-site PBX then SIP may be the perfect solution for you. You get to keep your on-site PBX while gaining the benefits of reduced costs, better quality calls and more calling features. Sounds good right? Or, if you’re ready to go further then a managed cloud voice solution will stop you having to manage anything more on-site – moving the hassle from you to your provider and letting you focus exactly where you need to, delivering your business to your customers.

My connectivity won’t take the extra strain –

Then it’s time for an upgrade. If your connectivity isn’t working well enough for SIP or Cloud Telephony it will be holding your business back in far more ways, such as painfully slow and unreliable internet, communication issues between colleagues and customers, and more. Plus, you’ll probably find that you can get more bandwidth for less money nowadays. Let us know if this is something you’re struggling with and we can find an internet connection for you that’s exactly what you need, not too little and not way too much.
