03 Numbers Advice - Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are ‘UK-wide 03 numbers’?
03 numbers are a new range of numbers being introduced in the UK
by OFCOM during the summer of 2007. The range has been bought in
to provide numbers that are like 01 or 02 geographical numbers from
the consumers’ perspective, whilst providing numbers with a national
presence. If required, 03 numbers can be run over an intelligent
network in the same way that traditional 08 numbers can. OFCOM believes
that the 03 range will create certainty and ensure consumer confidence
due to its clear and concise pricing structure.
2. What does it cost to call an 03 number?
Calls to 03 numbers will be priced in the same way as geographic numbers.
Customers will pay no more to call an 03 number than they would to
call a standard geographic 01 and 02 number (up to national rate).
Calls to 03 numbers will also be treated like calls to standard 01
and 02 numbers in respect of their inclusion in bundled minutes and
whether they qualify for discount packages. i.e. the call cost will
be that of a local call if you are calling locally or a national call
if you are calling nationally; these charges will vary dependant on
your service provider. 03 calls can not exceed the rate to make a
national geographic call.
3. Will my service provider take a share of my call cost?
Unlike 0870 type number ranges there will be no or very little revenue
for the number operator. In addition revenue sharing with end users
will not be permitted on 03 numbers.
